How did you and your husband discover the hobby of manipulative puzzling? Roxanne: I was 6 years old when I was first introduced to puzzles. I was at a family barbeque and I really wanted my grandfather to play badminton with me. He handed me a puzzle and told me if I could figure it out then he would play with me. I solved it relatively quickly and showed him. He seemed impressed and then told me it was a two-part puzzle. I solved the second part shortly after. George: When I was a boy, I liked to climb and take things apart for fun. I once took apart a clock, which was a bad idea. It has so many parts! One Christmas, I was given a Burr wooden puzzle from Japan. The puzzle listed a set number of combinations for different shapes, which I soon memorized. I then discovered that there were different combinations they hadn’t mentioned so I sent them a letter on how they could improve on it and change how it was advertised. I was about 11 years old. How did you meet? George: We both had a mutual friend in common. Oscar and I were supposed to meet in Hong Kong and visit puzzle manufacturers for a week. I arrived at the airport earlier than him and was waiting for a while before I found someone with a cell phone to call him. He told me that he was ill, but that he had a friend in Hong Kong that would take care of me. He gave me Roxanne’s number and I described myself to her. Told her I was the only one with a white beard. She picked me up and we spent the next week riding around China. It wasn’t until about 2 or 3 years later when we reconnected at a puzzle party. What is your favorite puzzle that you put together? George: My favorite puzzle is the one I am working on at that moment. Each puzzle has its own inner beauty Roxanne: My favorite puzzle is my wedding ring, which was designed by our friend Oscar in the Netherlands and made by a ring master in Thailand. What puzzle took the longest to put together? George: A year and a half and it is still not put together yet. It’s a 42,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, which is the largest one in the world. It’s divided into 7,000-piece quadrants. How do you feel this hobby has impacted your life? Roxanne: We’re married.

George: Puzzles play a major part in our lives. We can devote ourselves entirely to our love of puzzles.

What is the best advise you can give to others? George: “Live long and prosper. Choose to wake up with a happy face. Don’t get angry. Life is too short. Brush your teeth!” Roxanne: “Live life to the fullest and enjoy it. Wear sunscreen”
