Let’s first discuss the invisible benefits and why they are important to not only your game, but the entire club. Our Visage GPS systems utilize geofences. They are an invisible barrier set by the GPS system. We have two types of geofences set to notify you. One for your safety, for example at street crossings and one to protect the course. If these areas set to protect the course are driven through too often, it affects not only the playing conditions of the course but the aesthetics we are looking to protect at Boca Grove. You may have already experienced the ramifications of driving into these restricted areas. Your golf car will stop, but don’t panic. Your golf car is not broken! Once inside the restricted area, you are prompted to reverse out of the area until clear of the restricted area. Once clear, please drive your car to the nearest cart path adjacent to the green. This practice can benefit the course in many ways from ensuring the area around the greens are being played to the designer’s intent rather than offering up a tight lie that all golfers struggle with. These geofences allow us to take a step in the right direction to protect our biggest asset. If we all do our part, we can enjoy a fun round of golf, while still preserving the course conditions you deserve. Now on to how the GPS unit can help your game. The player experience the system offers is a great tool to help you play better golf. With live yardages to the hole, sand bunkers, and penalty areas, you can become a master of course management if utilized properly. One great feature available is being able to touch the screen to see the distance to or over a sand bunker, for example. Having this knowledge can help you pick the right club for the shot and dramatically help you lower scores. When using this function, not only will the system tell you how far you are to an area you would like to hit to from the tee, but how far that point is to the green. This allows you to play smart golf and become a master of course management, given you execute the shot. The Golf Professional staff can help with that aspect, thirty to sixty minutes at a time. The GPS units are available for Member owned carts. Some restrictions apply. Please email dpendola@bocagrove.org if you are interested in having a Visage GPS unit installed on your current golf car or if you are interested in a new golf car.
