Grove Life Summer 2019

A Round of Events Richard Centerbar, Director of Tennis

T he heat is on as we sizzle right through the summer with plenty of activities here at Boca Grove. First and foremost, I am excited to announce we are having something completely new for your tennis entertainment this summer. We are hosting the National USTA Boys 16 and under, on July 14, 15, and 16. They will be competing for the coveted gold ball. During the competition you will notice several NCAA college coaches who will be scouting their next superstars. This is the most prestigious and largest junior tennis event in the entire country.

Roddick, Agassi, Sampras and a few other famous players are past participants. We will have schedules and information on the participants, so please feel free to call the pro shop for more information. Along with this tennis entertainment, our Ladies DO League is going on throughout most of the summer. There is also some exciting news for the ladies, we just recently added a brand new division 4 SPBCWTA ladies team to the league for next fall, winter and spring. Additionally, our entire ladies 2B team moved up to 2A. Congratulations to both teams, it’s going to be a busy season starting this fall. For the Boca Grove tune up, check out the camp schedule because a little tune up goes a long way before season matches start. Congratulations are also in order for my associate professional, Brett Kurtz, who will be the captain of three 16 and under boys and girls teams which will be battling teams from around the country in a similar format to Davis cup matches. This is a national event held in Oklahoma City, so you can bet Brett will be doing a little scouting himself while the national 16s will be hosted at Boca Grove. Brett also recently received his pickleball certification, so stop by to register for lessons and pickleball clinics and look out for our fall mixed doubles club championships. SENIOR CO ED TENNIS CLINICS A great way to learn the tricks of the trade is by having a clinic from the senior professional, RC. This clinic will focus on specialty shots such as drop shots, angles, lobs and of course, the famous underhand serve. Beginning in early September, these clinics will be held on Tuesdays at 10 am and hosted by yours truly. By the way, you don’t have to be a senior to come to this clinic, you just might want to come and learn some tricky shots, from the master!! Grab your partner and sign up at the Tennis Center for our Mixed Doubles event. LADIES TEAM CAMPS Both new teams can get ready for the season with a tune up of their skills and stamina by attending a mini two week tennis boot camp before the start of the season. The camp for Division 4 begins on August 27 and August 29 for 2A. Check schedules at the pro shop, limited space will be available. USTA BOYS 16S COMES TO BOCA GROVE Entertainment time for tennis fans is coming to your own backyard. Come out for a preview of the next Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer as these kids compete for the famous gold ball. It will be especially fun watching college coaches scout their next talent while visiting Boca Grove. Players will be coming from all over the country to battle, which I call entertainment, so feel free to bring out the lawn chairs, rotate court to court and see if you can predict the next superstar of tennis. PICKLEBALL PROGRAMS Now that Brett Kurtz is a pickleball certified professional he’s ready to show you the proper way to play this game. Fall clinics will be on the schedule starting in October! We are also looking to have a mixed double tournament in October so be on the lookout!

Vision Inspire and enable members to enjoy every day of their lives.
