Sense of Belonging by Jennifer Jolly

T here are many reasons people join a country club. You could poll 10 members here at Boca Grove and where their list of reasons why they chose to live here will likely be varied, somewhere in their answer all will say “the people.” People are the most important aspect of a club. It is what creates the club’s culture and that sense of belonging - the feeling of being connected, accepted. In this issue of Grove Life, we are going to share with you a little about our community, how it is connected and how we work toward building that sense of belonging in everything we do. From our individual daily activities to the large all-inclusive special member events we host, we strive for personalized service that benefits all and fosters the human connection that makes us not only grow but thrive as a community. I could not be prouder of our most recent new event, Ladies HappyHour. This event came fromyou, ourmembers. A request from a few ladies who wanted to bring all the ladies together in one night to get to know each other better. This event jammed packed our sports bar and overflowed onto the upper veranda. It was wonderful to see everyone from tennis players to golfers, from food friendly to fitness savvy, from condominium owners to single family homeowners, equity to non-resident golf … everyone was represented, sharing stories, learning more about each other, strengthening their bond as women and members of our club. The event was so successful, the men have asked for their own! You will see more information on both further on in the magazine. Our Iron Chef competition was another wonderful event that brings community and sense of belonging together. Here the teams are built around the department heads. Each team has a theme, prepares a menu and, with the help of one of Chef’s culinary professionals, executes that menu and shares small plates with the entire group to vote on themost delicious option. Voting is open to the entire membership – you do not need to cook nor be on a team to enjoy the bounty. For those of you that did not attend this year, please plan to attend next year. It is GREAT fun!! Kathy Whitehurst’s team was the WINNER this year, there’s a nice photo on the back cover. Super Bowl Sunday, our Wild Animal Show, Kid’s Pizza & Cupcake Night … so many interesting and exciting events that bring us all together. I feel very lucky to have found all of you at Boca Grove, to have that sense of belonging is such an incredible community with a very diverse and excitingmembership. It ismy privilege and honor to serve each of you. Enjoy the magazine!
